The Creative Code: AIGC&ART

Bangkok, Thailand, May 20, 2024 – The AI Community, a subgroup of Blue Resources, proudly hosted the ‘The Creative Code: AIGC&ART’ event at SCBx NextTech, Siam paragon . This event brought together artists, technologists, and AI enthusiasts to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-generated content (AIGC) in the art world.

Event Overview

The event aimed to define the current role of AIGC in art, showcase real-world examples, and discuss the ethical implications of these advancements. Through engaging panel discussions and interactive workshops, attendees were equipped with the knowledge to utilize AI tools in art and business.

Attendees arrived early, forming a queue at the registration table. Upon registering, participants were entered into a lucky draw and enjoyed a welcome snack of quiche from the renowned homemade kitchen, C’est Si Bon. Follow them on Facebook here and Instagram here.

Interactive screen

As attendees entered the venue, they were greeted by a large interactive screen measuring approximately 10×7 meters. This screen displayed real-time camera footage of the entrance, blending with AI-generated frames created by Thai artist Mr. Paloadh Pitanpitayarat, AKA, PUN. This engaging setup allowed attendees to dance in front of the camera and take photos, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere.

Before the panel discussion began, Pun, a visual artist, was briefly introduced to the audience. his work is a fusion of traditional artistry and modern technology. Associated with Studio Talat, Pun specializes in creating interactive installations that integrate technology into art. Using AI, Pun transforms initial manual artwork into dynamic visual experiences, showcasing the collaborative potential between human creativity and AI technology. His live visual performances, combining AI-generated elements with her artistic vision, create immersive experiences that highlight the evolving landscape of art.

The seating arrangement was cozy and comfortable, providing an excellent view of the stage and panel. The event opened with an hour-long interactive session on the screen, offering ample opportunities for networking and connecting with other attendees.

After an hour, the MC, dressed and made up as Frida Kahlo, introduced the panel discussion. The panel featured:

Panel Discussion

The panel featured an impressive lineup of experts, each bringing their unique insights into the discussion:

  • Arthur Kamonkorn Rakarj: A renowned figure in art exhibits, who emphasized the democratizing power of AI in art creation while cautioning against cultural homogenization.
  • Dave Davani: Creative Director and Head of AI Research, who highlighted the practical applications of AI in media production and marketing.
  • Fattmoley: A virtual artist known for integrating AI in creative processes, showcasing the future of digital artistry.
  • Paul (Silk Legal): Provided a legal perspective, discussing data privacy, copyright issues, and the ethical considerations of AI in art.

Dave Davani – Music Production with AI

“AI tools enable us to streamline media production, but the true art lies in how we integrate human creativity with machine efficiency to tell compelling stories.”

AI in Playlist Creation: Dave uses AI to organize music playlists efficiently, ensuring tracks are in harmony and creating a seamless musical experience for live performances.

Real-Time Music Mixing: AI tools allow for the extraction and mixing of individual instruments from songs in real-time. This capability enhances live performances, enabling DJs and musicians to create dynamic and unique sets.

Voice and Music Cloning: Dave discussed the ethical and practical implications of cloning voices and music using AI, highlighting the balance between innovation and originality in music production.

Matt Foley – Digital Art and Concept Development

“AI allows us to push the boundaries of creativity, merging the digital with the physical to create immersive experiences that were previously unimaginable.”

Transformation of Concept Art: Matt explained how AI tools like Adobe Firefly have drastically reduced the need for large concept art teams. These tools generate initial ideas quickly, which are then refined by human artists.

AI in Major Studios: Major studios like Disney and Marvel are experimenting with AI, though there is public resistance and ethical considerations. AI tools help in animation and visual effects, but human input remains crucial in the final stages.

Economic Impact: The integration of AI in art production leads to budget savings and efficiency but also raises concerns about job displacement and the future role of human artists.

Arthur – Art and Culture Representation

“AI democratizes art creation, allowing more people to produce art even if they lack traditional artistic skills. However, there is a risk of cultural homogenization and loss of uniqueness.”

Cultural Representation in AI Art: Arthur emphasized the importance of training AI models with culturally specific data to ensure authentic representation in AI-generated art.

Accessibility of Art: AI democratizes art creation, allowing more people to produce art even if they lack traditional artistic skills. However, there is a risk of cultural homogenization and loss of uniqueness.

Respect for Creativity: Arthur stressed that the respect for AI-generated art depends on how it’s used. AI should be a tool to implement creative ideas rather than replace the creative process entirely.

Dr. Paul – Silk Legal

“As AI continues to evolve, it’s crucial that we address the legal and ethical frameworks to protect both creators and consumers in this new digital landscape.”

Data Privacy and Copyright: Dr. Paul discussed the complex legal issues surrounding AI, including data privacy and copyright. He questioned whether AI-generated content can be copyrighted and the ethical implications of using deceased celebrities’ likenesses.

Legal Development: The legal system is still catching up with AI advancements. Europe is leading in AI regulation, while the U.S. is lagging. Thailand is drafting an AI act inspired by European standards.

Pragmatic Solutions: Dr. Paul advised businesses to handle issues of AI-generated content pragmatically, respecting individuals’ rights and addressing potential copyright infringements responsibly.

Workshops and Interactive Sessions

Following the panel, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a workshop session featuring a 20-minute keynote on generative AI by the BLUE RESOURCES research team. Additionally, Mr. Hachim, Head of Product at OOZOU, hosted a workshop on “Open Source AI & Your Privacy: How to run Open Source LLMs locally on your own computer,” highlighting the privacy and advantages of running local large language models (LLMs) over cloud services. Attendees were then able to explore various tools for image, video, text, and audio creation. Notable workshops included:

  • Video Generation: Tools like HeyGen and Colossyan Creator.
  • Image Generation: Demonstrations using platforms like Midjourney and DALL-E 3.
  • Audio Generation: Music and speech creation with tools such as Suno and ElevenLabs.
  • Text Generation: Leveraging advanced language models like ChatGPT and Claude.

These sessions provided practical insights into integrating AI into creative workflows, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges.
