The Future of Education in the Age of AI

Bangkok, Thailand – August 21, 2024 – The AI Community event series held its 8th episode on AI 4 Education at Icon Siam, bringing together educators, technologists, and community leaders to explore how AI is transforming the educational landscape. The event featured insightful discussions on the evolution of learning with technology, the role of AI in empowering parents and schools, and the transition from adapting to AI to becoming “AI natives.”

The event opened with a compelling keynote by Shinjin David Jeong, who delved into the gamification of AI in education. Jeong emphasized how AI could revolutionize learning by making it more engaging and personalized.

He highlighted that while AI can optimize educational content, the true power of AI lies in its ability to create immersive, gamified learning experiences that can significantly enhance student engagement and understanding.

“AI is not just about optimizing what we learn but transforming how we learn,” Jeong stated.

“Imagine a future where students can simulate real-world experiences through AI-driven games, developing skills that go far beyond rote memorization.”

Following the keynote, a dynamic panel discussion was moderated by Dave Davani, Founder of Blue Resources, with contributions from esteemed panelists: David Doran, Mike Darnell, and Hadi Hendrawan.

Panel Highlights

David Doran, Founder of WeLearn, emphasized the importance of adaptive learning in the future of education:

“Technology has fundamentally reshaped how we approach learning. As we look forward, the integration of AI into personalized education will be key in ensuring that each student receives the support they need to thrive.”

Doran also highlighted the role of parents in this transformation:

“Parents now have more tools than ever to engage in their children’s education. AI-driven platforms can empower them to tailor learning experiences, making education more interactive and effective.”

Mike Darnell, Founder of Vimi.co, spoke on the evolving role of AI in education:

“AI offers a unique opportunity for self-tutoring, where students can engage with AI to practice and refine their knowledge independently. This capability will revolutionize how we prepare for exams and acquire new skills.”

Darnell also addressed the potential risks:

“While AI provides powerful tools, the danger lies in over-reliance on technology without critical thinking. We must ensure that students are equipped to question and innovate, not just consume information.”

Hadi Hendrawan, an experienced leader in AI and digital transformation, focused on the future of educational institutions:

“The integration of AI into preschool and early education offers a chance to set a new foundation for learning. By using data collected from parents, schools can adapt their curricula to better meet the needs of each student.”

Hendrawan also discussed the broader implications of AI in education:

“As AI continues to evolve, we will see a shift from adapting to technology to becoming truly AI native. This will require new skill sets, but we must also be mindful of the essential human skills that could be lost in this transition.”

Looking Forward

The panel concluded with a consensus that the next 1-5 years will be critical in shaping the future of education. The ongoing advancements in AI will likely redefine what it means to learn and teach, making this an exciting yet challenging time for educators, parents, and students alike.
